What is Form I-765?
Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, is how some people ask USCIS for permission to work in the United States. If approved, USCIS issues an Employment Authorization Document (EAD), often called a work permit. The form is used for first-time applications, renewals and replacements.
Eligibility for a work permit depends on the category you fall under — for example, a pending green card application or a particular immigration status. USCIS's instructions list the categories, and OG does not choose one for you; if you are unsure, tell us and we will note it rather than guess.
