What is the K-1 fiancé(e) visa process?

The K-1 nonimmigrant visa lets the foreign-citizen fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen travel to the United States to marry the citizen within a limited time. The process starts with Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e), filed with USCIS by the U.S. citizen, followed by steps handled by the Department of State.
