What is the DS-260?

The DS-260, Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application, is an online form from the U.S. Department of State, completed through its Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC). People applying for an immigrant visa through consular processing complete one for each applicant.

It asks for detailed personal information — names, addresses, family members, work and education history — and security and background questions that the applicant must answer truthfully. Because it is an official online application, the applicant is responsible for reviewing, certifying and submitting their own answers.

OG helps the applicant gather and organize the information and documents — passport, civil documents, family details and the case number the National Visa Center provides — and prepares the answers in an organized, English-ready layout from what you tell us. We do not submit the DS-260 for you or give legal advice. Sensitive security answers are treated as private.

What do I need before starting a DS-260?
Your passport, the case number the National Visa Center gave you, your civil documents (such as birth and marriage certificates) and your address, family, work and education history. We will go through the list with you.
Does each family member need their own DS-260?
Each person applying for an immigrant visa completes their own DS-260. OG can help prepare the information for each applicant.
Can you submit the DS-260 for me?
No. The applicant reviews, certifies and submits the DS-260 in the Department of State's CEAC system. OG prepares the information so that step is easier.
Is the DS-260 the same as the I-130?
No. The I-130 is a USCIS petition filed by the relative in the United States; the DS-260 is the Department of State's visa application completed by the person applying. See our consular processing page.
